 Supervision

We can offer Group and one to one Supervision for Coaches

As a coach to maintain your quality of practice that you are giving to your clients it is important to undergo regular, expert supervision.

Supervision enables you to discuss your performance confidentially, either face-to-face or on the telephone.

The main purposes are to :
1) develop your  coaching skills,
2) reflect on your interventions and relationships
3) ensure you are working ethically to maintain your credibility.
4)be seen to be accountable for your practice at a professional level

Many issues can be presented as part of supervision. These can be around the relationship, interventions, the content or culture of the environment.Typical subjects raised in Supervision are:

Contracting — how to contract with the client and or the client’s organisation
Feeling ‘stuck’ with a client and not being sure why –  unsure what to do next
Finding a client difficult and not knowing why
Crisis of confidence –who am I to help him’
Struggling to have empathy or build rapport
Finding it hard to challenge and/or support a client
Not knowing how to deal with cultural differences or diversity
Finding a client boring
Being unsure whether the client needs a therapeutic intervention
How to develop impact and presence as a coach

South West Coaching uses The Seven-Eyed model of Coaching Supervision (Hawkins & Shohet 2000). This model enables the Supervisor to cover various aspects of the coaching session allowing for a rich and enlightening discussion to place. The 7 modes that are covered are:

1. Focus on the client and what/how they present
2. The interventions being made or not made by the coach
3. The ‘system’ created by the coach and client
4. How the coach is reacting during the coaching work
 – what is being re-stimulated
5. The parallel process
6. How the supervisor is reflecting on what is being
   discussed
7. Background — the organisational, environmental context
